John Constable
(1776.6.11 ~ 1837.3.31)
제분업자의 집안에서 태어나 왕립미술학교에서 공부하였다.
1802년 아카데미전에 입선하였으나 곧 고향으로 돌아와 풍경화에 전념하였다.
화풍은 자연에 대한 관찰이 섬세하고, 영국 특유의 소박한 풍물을 묘사하였으며 밝은 색채감을 나타냈다. 특히 초록색의 발견자로서 근대 풍경화에 큰 영향을 끼쳤으며 이 감각은 들라크루아를 비롯한 프랑스 화가들에게 많은 영향을 끼쳤다. 대표작으로 《건초 수레》《솔즈버리대성당》 등이 있다.
